SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's tennis team earn their first win of 2015 in emphatic fashion with an 8-1 victory over Western New Mexico on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
 
The Sea Lions (1-2) began the match with singles, as they were the first match in a doubleheader with the women's team. The change did not affect PLNU at all though; in fact it seemed to inspire them.
 
Point Loma swept every singles match, and dropped only two sets along the way.  Andre Staab (6-1, 6-3), Martin, Blaho (6-2, 6-3), Daniel Milliken (6-1, 6-2) and Jack Alston (6-1, 6-2) all swept their opponents, while James Tenbroeck (4-6, 6-3, 7-6) and CJ Erion (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) finished off their opponents in three sets and give PLNU the victory.
 
"Our goal was to win the match before doubles and every guy took their court and got it done," said Point Loma head coach Curt Wheeler.
 
Staab and Milliken teamed up to pick up a win at No. 1 doubles 8-3. Blaho and Erion also earned their second win of the afternoon with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
 
"Doubleheaders are always tough for the first team," Wheeler said. "Starting with singles is a different dynamic and the guys did a great job bringing the same focus and intensity as they do when starting with doubles.
 
"Getting our first win was huge," he continued. "We had a tough first two matches and it was great today to come out with our first win. We lost to these guys 5-4 last year so to come back and win this season 8-1 is quite a turnaround. I was proud of the way our guys competed and played today."
 
PLNU will go on the road for its next match. It will travel to Pomona Pitzer on Saturday, Feb. 21. The match will start at 3:00 p.m
