SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's tennis team won its third straight match with an 8-1 victory over Westmont on Wednesday, Apr. 8.
 
The Sea Lions' (10-9) recent winning streak pushed them over .500 for the first time since Mar. 10 against Sonoma State. Westmont dropped its seventh straight match to fall to 8-13 on the season.
 
While the match appears as Point Loma dominated from start to finish, things could have easily swung the other way with momentum from the final doubles point. Andre Staab and Daniel Milliken picked up a quick 8-0 win at No. 1s and James Tenbroeck and Grant Alston teamed up win 8-2 at No. 3s. However, another critical point was still out there at No. 2s, and was the difference between PLNU going up 3-0 or being ahead just 2-1. Martin Blaho and CJ Erion battled Josh Barnard and Christian Mathis to a tiebreaker and prevailed 3-0 to allow PLNU to sweep doubles and take the 3-0 lead.
 
The Sea Lions moved to singles and earned five straight set sweeps en route to the victory. Staab, Blaho, Milliken, Erion and Jack Alston each picked up victories. Staab, Erion and Blaho have each won three matches in a row, while Jack Alston has won four straight.
 
The Sea Lions will go to La Jolla, Calif. On Friday, Apr. 10 to face the UC San Diego Tritons in their final match of the regular season. PLNU will then compete in the PacWest Championships on Thursday, Apr. 16 through Thursday, Apr. 18 in Surprise, Ariz.
