SAN DIEGO - The No. 26 Point Loma men's tennis team dropped its season opener to No. 6 ranked (NAIA) San Diego Christian, 7-2, on Saturday, Jan. 30.
 
The Hawks (1-0) jumped on PLNU early by taking two of the three doubles points. The Sea Lions managed to earn their lone doubles point at No. 3 doubles with James Tenbroeck and Grant Alston winning 8-6.
 
The match went to singles with PLNU needing to win four of six to win the match, but it didn't happen. SDC won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 to seal the match. The Hawks also picked up points at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
 
CJ Erion gave Point Loma its only singles point of the day as he came back after dropping the first set to defeat Michael Rjazanov 5-7, 6-3 and 10-7.
 
The Point Loma men's tennis team will be back on the court on Wednesday, Feb. 3 when it travels to La Jolla, Calif., to take on local rival and PacWest affiliate member UC San Diego at 2:00 p.m.
