LAIE, Hawaii - The Point Loma women's volleyball team earned its first-ever win against BYU-Hawaii, grinding out a comeback, five-set victory on the road 31-33, 19-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 15-9 on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The win kept the Sea Lions in sixth place in the PacWest standings at 6-5 (8-12 overall). BYU-Hawaii dropped to 4-17 (2-10 PacWest).
After falling 33-31 in the first set and then going down 25-19 in the second set the Sea Lions could have folded but instead rallied for one of their most impressive victories of the season against a team that was a national power for the past decade.
Things all turned around in the third set when PLNU posted its best hitting percentage of the day in any set at .255 while holding BYU-Hawaii to a .000 mark. After that point PLNU would win the hitting percentage in the next two sets and go on to the win.
Four Sea Lions were in double-figure kills in the victory.
Brianna Sizemore recorded her ninth double-double with 17 kills and 21 digs. She added four blocks and an ace.
Marissa Hageman matched Sizemore with a team-leading 17 kills and a .405 hitting percentage.
Ashlynn Fresques and
Samantha Krakower added 15 and 16 kills, respectively.
Cara Keturakis had her second-best assist output of the season with 57 dishes.
Christin Fisher added to her school record with another 25 digs.
Leilani Adolpho had 19 kills and Sinamoni Tonga added 17 in the lost for the Seasiders.
The Hawaii road trip for Point Loma will wrap up on Monday, Oct. 24 against Hawaii Pacific. The match will start at 10 p.m. (PST)
