Sea Lions take down Sharks on Fuller, Kelly goals

HONOLULU - Keyran Kelly and Griffin Fuller each recorded second half goals to propel the Point Loma men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Hawaii Pacific on Monday, Oct. 24.

The Sea Lions move over .500 to 6-5-4 on the season and to 5-4-1 in the PacWest. The 16 points for PLNU in league play have the Sea Lions fifth in the standings. The loss drops Hawaii Pacific to 3-6-4 on the season and to 3-4-2 in the PacWest.

For the second straight match Keyran Kelly scored within the opening two minutes of the second half. This time it gave PLNU the lead and the momentum. After a scoreless first half, Jorge Navarro connected on a pass to Kelly in the middle of the box and he chipped it over the goalkeeper for his third goal of the season.

PLNU held that lead until the 82nd minute when Indian Fuller extended their lead with a counterstrike to shot and unassisted, insurance goal. It would actually prove to be the game-winner as Hawaii Pacific scored in the 89th minute to cut the Sea Lions' lead to one, but they could not find the equalizer in the final 100 seconds and PLNU walked away with the full three-point result.

Dylan Roberts earned the victory in net while making five saves. His counterpart Jesse Kunitomo had two saves for the Sharks.

Point Loma will continue its road trip on Thursday, Oct. 27 against Chaminade. The match will start at 1 p.m. (PST).
