Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Streaks snapped as Sea Lions fall to Silverswords

HONOLULU - The Point Loma women's soccer team suffered a devastating 1-0 loss at Chaminade on Thursday, Oct. 27.

The result snapped a multitude of streaks by Point Loma (10-3-3, 8-2-1 PacWest). It halted their seven-match winning streak and eight match shutout streak along with putting PLNU in a position where it no longer controls its own fate in a pursuit of its third-straight PacWest Championship. The win was just the third of the season for the Silverswords (3-9-1, 3-6-1 PacWest), and since 2010 they have only 11 wins as a program.

The lone goal of the match came off a corner kick from Nicole Nishiki in the 11th minute. Her shot slipped out of the hands of the goalkeeper and crept towards the goal line. PLNU's defender Madelon Denbaugh appeared to clear the ball before it broke the plain, but the officials saw it differently and awarded CUH the goal. That score broke a streak of 808 consecutive minutes by the Sea Lions without allowing a goal.

Despite the deficit on the scoreboard, the Sea Lions kept on the attack and outshot Chaminade 21-6 in the game, including 13-4 on shots on goal, but none found the net. Chaminade's Brandee Lee made 10 saves in the contest, while the Silverswords had 13 total saves. Ariel Oriarte had three saves for Point Loma.

PLNU will wrap up its Hawaii road trip on Saturday, Oct. 29 against Hawaii Hilo. The match will start at 10 p.m. (PST).
