OAKLAND -
Brianna Sizemore had 16 kills and
Samantha Krakower added 15 to allow the Point Loma volleyball team to complete a perfect trip to the Bay Area with a sweep of Holy Names, 25-16, 25-18 and 26-24, on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The win evens the Sea Lions' PacWest record at 9-9 (11-16 overall) and helped them move into a tie with Chaminade for seventh place in the conference standings. The loss dropped Holy Names to 2-24 on the season (1-17 PacWest).
There was not much rest after upsetting Dominican last night, but it did not seem to hurt the Sea Lions at all. They came out and quickly took a 2-0 lead with dominating wins in the first two sets. The third set looked like it was going to be the same thing as PLNU went up 16-10 but the Hawks fought back on their Senior Day and took a 22-20 lead. But the Sea Lions knew they had the chance to close it right there and would not allow their opponent extend the match any further. PLNU took the next two points to tie the match at 22-22, and then after falling behind again at 24-23, the Sea Lions scored three straight points to win the set (26-24) and complete the match.
Sizemore added 14 digs to her 16 kills for her 12th double-double of the season.
Cara Keturakis also registered her 12th double-double of the season with 38 assists and 10 digs.
Christin Fisher continued her pursuit of the only dig record she does not own, the single-season mark, with another 25 digs in the contest. She has 613 digs this season, 67 short of matching PLNU's single-season record with two matches to play.
Holy Names was led by 10 kills from Madison Stark. She was the only hawk in double-figures as the Sea Lions held HNU to a .063 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, Point Loma hit .239 and had 48 kills to the Hawks' 32.
PLNU will return home to host PacWest-leader Concordia (24-2, 15-2 PacWest) on Wednesday, Nov. 16. It will also be Senior Night. PLNU will be honoring
Christin Fisher and
Marissa Hageman with a prematch ceremony.
