Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Sea Lions swat away Yellowjackets in 75-55 win

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 75-55 victory over Montana State Billings on Monday, Nov. 14.

Madison West scored 17 points to lead four Sea Lions in double-figures. She was 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 3-of-3 at the free throw line. Sydney Tonack posted 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and three steals. Alex Brunk and Kassidy Gengenbacher added 13 points apiece. Roya Rustamzada led PLNU with nine rebounds.

"The nice thing about this team is we move the ball really well and we have a lot of women that can score," said Point Loma head coach Lisa Faulkner. "We play as a team and it has been fun to watch it evolve as we've played more games. Hopefully with some more practice time we can clean some things up but having four players in double-figures is awesome."

Four student-athletes for MSU Billings (0-3) also reached double-figures, but none scored over 11 points. Rylee Kane, Grace Weeks and Brina Hull all paced the Yellowjackets with 11 points apiece. The scoring was hard to come by for MSU Billings as it was held to 37 percent shooting and was outrebounded 42-27. PLNU turned that rebounding edge into an 18-8 advantage in second chance points.

"That is a team that is well coached and plays really hard," "I knew both teams had played three games in four days so it was important to keep up our energy. If we at least played hard and matched their energy we would be fine, and I think we did that.

"I also like how we rebounded today," Faulkner continued. "It helped us get out in transition and get some easy baskets. The key to the game for us will always be rebounding. If we can do that we will be in every game."

PLNU will play its final game of its season opening homestand when it hosts Biloa for its annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.

"I am super excited for Homecoming," said Faulkner. "I am happy is it against Alan Nakamura, who coached at PLNU, and he has his team playing hard so it should be a tough one."
