SAN DIEGO - For the second time in three weeks, the Point Loma volleyball team faced second-place California Baptist, and the results were the same each time, with the Lancers winning both in straight sets. The latest came on Monday, Nov. 7 with CBU winning 25-20, 25-17 and 25-5.
The victory keeps the Lancers' (18-6, 13-3 PacWest) hopes for a conference title alive as they trail Concordia by just one match in the standings with four to play. PLNU drops into a tie with Hawaii Hilo for eighth in the PacWest standings with a 7-9 record (9-16 overall).
Point Loma was held to its lowest hitting percentage since the 2013 season in the loss. PLNU posted just a .010 hitting percentage in the match compared to a .371 mark for the Lancers. Things were respectable for the Sea Lions after the first two sets, but a -.259 hitting percentage in the third set (four kills, 11 errors) tainted the final numbers.
Lauren Hackett had 12 kills and seven digs to lead the Lancers. Jenna Perry also added 10 kills and Lauren Marr had seven kills without an error.
Marissa Hageman paced Point Loma with seven kills.
Christin Fisher added 13 digs and
Megan Angerstein had two aces.
The Point Loma volleyball team will look to get back on track this weekend when it travels to the Bay Area to take on a pair of PacWest opponents. The Sea Lions will face off against Dominican (CA) on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. PLNU will close out the road trip against Holy Names on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
