Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 4 CBU too much for Point Loma in tight game

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's basketball team's three-game winning streak was snapped by No. 4 California Baptist, 68-62, in the opening game of PacWest play for both teams. (Dec. 1)

The Sea Lions drop to 3-4 on the season, while CBU remains undefeated at 7-0.

Vince Boumann put up his second straight double-double, and third in his last four contests, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He was joined in double-figures by Skyler White, who came off the bench to hit 4-of-4 shots, including two from behind the arc, to post 10 points.

Michael Smith led CBU with 17 points, but he took 19 shots to get there (made six). Kalidou Diouf matched Boumann's effort in the middle with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jason Todd added 11 points, as he went 3-of-4 from 3-point range.

After Point Loma scored the opening basket and CBU answered with a 3-pointer, the Sea Lions would never again lead in the contest. They trailed 30-23 at the half but were able to cut the lead to three on multiple occasions, including with 46 seconds remaining. CBU would seal the game by making 7-of-8 free throws in the final 46 seconds to thwart any chance of a Point Loma comeback.

Those free throws where a big difference in the game. California Baptist's was able to get to and convert at the free throw line on 12-of-15 attempts, while PLNU reached the line just 11 times (made six).

Point Look to bounce back from this game on Saturday, Dec. 3 when it travels to Fresno Pacific to face the Sunbirds (1-5, 1-0 PacWest) in a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
