Rustamzada's double-double leads to road win

FRESNO, Calif. - Roya Rustamzada's fifth double-double of the season led five Point Loma women's basketball student-athletes in double-figures as the Sea Lions earned the 76-57 road victory at Fresno Pacific. (Dec. 3)
 
The win evened PLNU's PacWest record at 1-1 (6-2 overall) and dropped the Sunbirds to 0-2 in league play (2-6 overall).
 
Rustamzada set a new career-high by recording her fifth double-double of the season (eight games). She matched a season-best with 18 points by going 5-of-11 from the field and 7-of-9 at the free throw line. She also matched her career-high by grabbing 14 rebounds (11 defensive) to go along with two blocks and three steals.
 
Fellow Sea Lion forward Alex Brunk posted 14 points, going 6-of-8 at the charity stripe. She helped PLNU reach the line 37 times (27 makes) and outscore the Sunbirds by 15 points with the clock stopped. Point Loma also outrebounded the Sunbirds 47-26 and outscored them 46-14 on points in the paint.
 
Sydney Tonack was also very efficient at the free throw line, going 5-of-6 en route to scoring 13 points. Kassidy Gengenbacher came off the bench with 12 points for her seventh straight game in double-figures. She added five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Madison West chipped in with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
 
Cassie Pisik had 16 points to lead the Sunbirds, but she was just 8-of-20 from the field. Alex Green added 14 points as she went 10-of-11 at the free throw line.
 
Point Loma led throughout the game but saw their lead cut to five (60-55) with 4:23 remaining. The Sea Lions then put their foot in the sand and closed out the game with a 16-2 run to capture the conference victory on the road.
 
The Sea Lions next game will also be a PacWest road contest. Next Saturday (Dec. 10) PLNU will travel to Concordia to face the Eagles in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
