SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's tennis team used the momentum of quick points in doubles from Andre Staab and Daniel Tenbroeck (8-3) at No. 1s and from Martin Blaho and Adrian von Braun (8-1) at No. 2s to defeat PacWest rival Concordia (CA), 6-3 on Wednesday (Feb. 24).
 
The Sea Lions (2-5) have now won back-to-back matches after a slow start to the season. The loss dropped CUI to 2-4.
 
After PLNU got points from its top two doubles teams, the match shifted to singles with PLNU up 2-1.
 
"When we have had the lead after doubles we have been very successful," said Point Loma head coach Curt Wheeler.
 
 Staab earned another quick point for PLNU at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-0, to put PLNU up 3-1. Adrian von Braun made short work of his opponent at No. 6 singles, ousting him in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
 
The Sea Lions captured the match-winning point in a unique way. CJ Erion had moved up to No. 4 singles after doubles play when PLNU's No. 4 player was scratched. Erion stepped up a spot and won the first set 6-2. He was winning the second set 3-0 when his opponent retired to give Point Loma the match victory.
 
"We are officially on a streak now and everyone's confidence is growing with each match," Wheeler said. "We have a tough schedule ahead but we are playing completely different than we were at the beginning of the season and it is starting to show in the scores."
 
Point Loma will return to action on Friday, Feb. 26 when it hosts Western New Mexico at 2:00 p.m.
