REDLANDS, Calif. - The early season schedule didn't get any easier for the No. 26 Point Loma men's tennis team on Saturday when it faced the No. 15 team in NCAA Division III, Redlands on the road, and fell 6-3 (Feb. 6).
Â
The Bulldogs are now 2-0 on the season, while the Sea Lions dropped to 0-3.
Â
Things started off well for Point Loma with
Martin Blaho and
Adrian von Braun winning 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Redlands followed that by taking the next two doubles matches and building on that momentum in singles. The Bulldogs took singles matches at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 in straight sets to capture the critical fifth match point.
Â
Despite the Bulldogs having the match wrapped up the Sea Lions continued to fight.
Andre Staab and
CJ Erion earned points for PLNU at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively. Staab won 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2 for his first victory of the season. Erion earned his second singles win in in three tries this season with a 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2 victory over Cooper Lacetera.
Â
James Tenbroeck took his opponent to a tiebreaker in the third set at No. 4 singles but the Bulldogs' Parker Wilson came back to win 2-6, 6-2 and 10-4.
Â
Point Loma's next match will be Friday, Feb. 12 at UC Riverside starting at 2:00 p.m.
