SAN DIEGO - It was a short turnaround and a tough opponent for the Point Loma men's tennis team, but they bounced back quickly from having their five-match winning streak snapped yesterday with a 6-3 victory over Portland State on Tuesday (Mar. 22).
 
The Sea Lions are now 9-10 after winning six of their last seven. The loss drops PSU to 11-5 on the season.
 
It was a true team effort on the courts today for Point Loma as they needed a comeback after doubles. All three doubles matches were tight, but it was the Vikings that grabbed the early lead, 2-1. PSU won on court 1 in a tiebreaker and on court 2 8-6. The Sea Lions were saved from being swept in doubles by Martin Blaho and James Tenbroeck as the duo pulled out another close match, 8-6. This was the eighth straight win for the doubles partners, and six of those eight matches they have won by the score of 8-6, 9-7 or in a tiebreaker.
 
Needing to take at least four of the six matches in singles, the Sea Lions went to work. CJ Erion, who hails from Salem, Ore., quickly dispatched his Oregonian opponent on court 5, 6-1 and 6-0. James Tenbroeck and Adrian von Braun followed suit with straight set victories on courts 4 and 6, respectively. Martin Blaho defended the No. 2 court with a sweep of his own, 6-3 and 6-4. Daniel Milliken earned the final point for PLNU with a 7-6 and 6-4 victory over Brent Wheeler, brother of PLNU head coach Curt Wheeler, on court 3.
 
The Sea Lions will be on the courts for the third straight day on Wednesday, Mar. 23, when they head to Irvine, Calif., to face Concordia (CA). The match will start at 2:00 p.m.
