SURPRISE, Ariz. - The No. 29 Point Loma men's tennis team was upset in the quarterfinals of the PacWest Championships by Concordia (CA), 5-4, on Thursday, Apr. 14. PLNU came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed, but No. 6 seeded Concordia found a way to get the victory.
 
The Sea Lions (10-13) opened in doubles with a win at No. 3 doubles when Martin Blaho and James Tenbroeck blanked their foes 8-0. Andre Staab and Daniel Milliken put PLNU up 2-0 when they won 8-5 on court 1. That would be the last point the Sea Lions would get in doubles as they settled for a 2-1 lead going into singles.
 
Needing just a split in singles the Sea Lions went to work. Adrian von Braun swept his opponent at No. 6s 6-0 and 6-0 to extend the lead to 3-1. CUI then grabbed points on courts 1, 2 and 4 to take a 4-3 lead. Daniel Milliken came back after dropping the first set to win on court 3 by the score of 4-6, 6-3 and 6-0 to bring it all down to James Tenbroeck on court 5.
 
Tenbroeck picked up a 6-4 win in the first set and then was edged 7-5 in the second set to bring the entire match down to the third set. The two players split the first four games but then Harsha Manjunath took three straight games to go up 5-2, and he went on to win 6-3 in the third set to clinch the victory for the Eagles.
 
Point Loma will play Hawaii Hilo in the consolation bracket on Friday at 1:30 p.m. [Updated Men's Bracket]
