SURPRISE, Ariz. - The No. 29 Point Loma men's tennis team defeated Hawaii Hilo, 5-1, on Friday, Apr. 15 to move into the consolation match at the PacWest Championships.
 
The Sea Lions are now 11-13 this season. The Vulcans dropped to 6-11 and were eliminated from the PacWest tourmament.
 
In a rare feat, Point Loma took all three double matches to go up 3-0 heading into singles. Andre Staab and Daniel Milliken won easily at No. 1s (8-2) as did Martin Blaho and James Tenbroeck at No. 3s (8-1). That final point did not come easy as CJ Erion and Adrian von Braun had to go to a tiebreaker but still prevailed with a 9-8 (8-6) victory.
 
Jack Alston then blanked his opponent on court 6, 6-0 and 6-0, to put PLNU a point away from capturing the match. After CUI got one more point, senior Daniel Milliken closed out the match with a three-set victory, 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3, on court 3.
 
Point Loma will face Holy Names in the fifth place match on Saturday, Apr. 16 at 10:30 a.m.
