Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tagaloa's two goals power PLNU under the lights

SAN DIEGO - Nico Tagaloa scored two goals in the second half to lead the Point Loma men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Concordia (CA) in front of nearly 900 fans at the Sea Lions' second annual Night Soccer Match. (Sept. 29)

Point Loma is now 2-3-3 on the season and 1-2-0 in the PacWest. Concordia falls to 2-3-2 (1-1-0 PacWest).

When Tagaloa's first goal sailed into the net in the 54th minute you could feel the sense of relief leaving the shoulders of the Sea Lions. PLNU had outshot CUI 17-1 in the first half, including 5-0 on shots on goal, but still could not find the net as their scoreless streak extended to 569 consecutive minutes. But all frustrations were erased (at least for this game) when Andrew Ritchie collected a blocked shot and passed it back to Tagaloa in the box for a quick shot on goal, which finally managed to elude the opponent's goalie.

Tagaloa extended the Sea Lions' lead to 2-0 with another goal in the 67th minute. Mitch Wheelon pushed the ball on the left side of the field and sent it into the middle to Tagaloa, who corralled it after a touch by an Eagles defender, and put it into the back of the net. These were Tagaloa's first two goals of the season.

Dylan Roberts made his first start in goal for the Sea Lions, and with the help of a stout defense earned the victory. He made three saves in the win. On the other side of the ball, CUI's Jordan Brinkley was credited with 10 saves as PLNU finished with 13 shots on goal and 29 total shots.

Point Loma will return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 1 to take on Dominican (CA) at 11:30 a.m.
