Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 7 UCSD bests Point Loma on the pitch

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 7 UC San Diego at home on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

This was the first loss of the season for PLNU which dropped to 1-1-1 on the year. UCSD improved to 2-0-0 with the victory. Both their wins have come against PacWest opponents (APU).

The game was scoreless until the 54th minute when UC San Diego took advantage of a throw-in from deep in PLNU territory. Jordyn McNutt inbounded the ball to Mary Reilly who took it along the baseline and found an open Katie O'Laughlin open from eight yards out for the first score of the match.

PLNU had two chances to tie the match but could not find the equalizing goal. UCSD tacked on another goal in the 81st minute to extend their lead. This was the first time Point Loma had yielded two goals in a regular season match since Sept. 13, 2014 against Cal State LA.

"UC San Diego is a very good team," said coach Hall. "They are fit and well-coached. I knew it would be a good game.

"I felt our team did well in spurts but we don't have the depth right now," Hall explained. "We need to get fitter. We have some work still to do if we want to compete at the level we want to compete at. We have the depth we just have to get everyone in shape."

PLNU will return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 10 when it hosts Southern Nazarene at 2:00 p.m.
