Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Point Loma and Chico State end match scoreless

SAN DIEGO - One hundred and ten minutes later and the score never changed, as the Point Loma men's soccer team earned a 0-0 tie with Chico State on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Point Loma is now 1-0-2 on the season with all three matches coming against members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Chico State evened its record at 1-1-1.

Point Loma outshot Chico State 18-12 but the Wildcats had the edge in shots on goal 7-4. Each team had a pair of good looks at the net but neither found the goal. PLNU had one hit the post in the second half and had a get look in front of the goal in the second overtime but shot way high. Chico State had two good runs in the second half but each was thwarted by Michael Lambert and the defense.

"As often happens in this game is that you can't score you start leaking chances and we were doing that," Wolf explained. "The back-four and Michael took care of the few threats they had.

"It was a game of 'almosts,'" coach Wolf continued. "For me we got to some great spots, but we have to come up with the good. We just were not good enough in front of goal. There were some simple moments to get a goal, we just couldn't do it. We dictated that game but couldn't get it in the net. It's a really disappointing result for us not to get the full three points."

"We are home so to draw here is not what we want," added Wolf. "We could have easily lost that match, and that would have killed us. We didn't lose it but when you watch the whole game and the way it played out it is disappointing to come out with a 0-0 draw."

PLNU will now prepare to host Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m.

"Colorado School of Mines is a very tough team and they are going to be a challenge for us," Wolf noted.
