Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

PLNU breaks out for 3 goals; unbeaten streak at 10

SAN DIEGO - There have not been many easy matches this season for the Sea Lions, but Saturday's was as close as they have come. The Point Loma men's soccer team posted three goals by three different student-athletes to defeat Hawaii Hilo, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 14. The victory ran the Sea Lions' unbeaten streak to 10 straight matches and extended their shutout streak to 794 consecutive minutes (eight straight matches).

Indiana Fuller put Point Loma up before the half with a goal in the 39th minute. PLNU extended its lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute on the prettiest goal of the year as Christopher Tellez took the ball on the endline before passing to Jacob Moreno who dropped it off to an open Matias Rodriguez for the score. Chris Reingen put the game away in the 72nd minute on his third goal of the season.

PacWest Implications
For the moment, Point Loma takes over first place in the PacWest Conference standings with 17 points. Hawaii Hilo is still looking for its first point in conference play. The Vulcans remain tied for last in the PacWest.

The Turning Point
Indiana Fuller's scoring shot came when the Sea Lions needed it most. PLNU was stagnant for parts of the first half, but Fuller's goal helped both the offense and the defense pick up their pace.

Wolf's Words
On playing more people: "That was the hope for the entire day. We have a quick turn with a match on Monday so we hoped to get some guys on the pitch."

On Indiana's goal:
"That was a big goal because we were not very good at that point. We didn't play well the first half of the match but when he came on and scored a great goal. He wasn't happy with me for not starting him but that is how you react."

On Rodriguez's goal: "There was some really good connections there. It was really good movement, and I didn't expect Rodriguez to be there, but he sniffed it out and found himself on the back post."

On the development of the team: "It has a lot to do with these guys. There is a different spirit about this group. They react well to me and are really trying to do something special here. When you drop those first two matches it is really a wakeup call. This West Region is unforgiving and we just have to keep rolling."
