SAN DIEGO -
Jennifer Ballez bookended the home matches of her senior season in storybook fashion. She posted the game-winner late in the match in the home opener, and today she scored with just 30 seconds left in overtime to lift the Point Loma team over Concordia, 3-2, on Senior Day. (Oct. 26)
Â
Abbey Teagle gave Point Loma a 2-0 lead as she scored in the 34th minute and again in the 59th. With the two-goal advantage, PLNU continued to dictate the match until it committed a foul in the box to give the Eagles a penalty kick in the 76th minute. McKenna Carrillo drilled the ball into the net to cut the Sea Lions' lead in half and bring momentum back into the Eagles' sails. Two minutes later Megan Hussey tied up the match on a great goal deep in the box, and it would remain 2-2 until Ballez's golden goal in the 110th minute.

PacWest Implications
The win broke a tie for seventh place in the PacWest standings between Point Loma and Concordia. The three points from the win will allow PLNU to also jump two other teams into fifth place in the standings with 18 total points. Concordia drops down to eighth place with 15 points.
Â
The Turning Point
It looked like the Sea Lions were going to have to settle for a disappointing tie, after giving up two goals to tie the match, but in the final minute of play
Abbey Teagle beat the Eagles' goalkeeper to the ball by a split second and jarred the ball free. Ballez picked up the loose ball, dribbled it around the keeper on the ground and almost walked the ball into the net for the game-winning goal.

Words from the Hall of Wisdom
On Ballez's goal: "That was awesome and I am so excited for Jen. She is a senior and for her to get that goal did my heart well. I was really proud of her for getting that goal and it could not have happened to a better girl."
Â
On the victory on Senior Day: "The win for the seniors was the most exciting thing for me today. For them to go out in their last home match like that was really special."
Â
On Concordia: "Concordia did great. It was a great game and for them to fight back from 0-2 down shows a lot of grit."
Â
On Teagle: "I have told her, and truly believe, that if she puts in her work she has the chance to be the best high, outside player in the conference. Those two were fantastic, but they were a product of nose for the goal and desire to play soccer at a high level. She has improved immensely since her freshman year, and if she keeps working hard I think she could be a real special player."Â
