SEA LIONS HOST SDCC FOR HOMECOMING THIS SATURDAY

Homecoming 2017 is here! The Point Loma men's basketball team will welcome in crosstown foe San Diego Christian for their annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m.

Tickets
Tickets for the Homecoming game are available right now at plnusealions.com/tickets. General admission tickets are $8 and PLNU students, staff and faculty will be $3 apiece. Seniors and military members tickets are $5.

A look at the Sea Lions
The men's basketball team is currently 2-3, after going 1-1 in both the Disney Tip-Off Classic and the PacWest/GNAC Challenge, and a tough 70-68 loss to UC San Diego in its home opener. Their three losses this season have come by a combined six points.
 
Point guard, Josh Rodriguez made it onto the preseason All-PacWest team and Preston Beverly was named a NCAA Division II Small College honorable mention All-American. Tanner Nelson is pacing four Sea Lions in double-figures with 12.7 points per game. Beverly is second with 12.0 ppg and is leading the team with 6.6 rebounds per game. Josh Rodriguez (10.6) and Sterling Somers (10.0) are also in double-figures. Somers leads the squad with eight 3-pointers and a mark of .400 percent from behind the arc.
 
As a team, Point Loma is outrebounding its opponents by 12.6 rebounds per game. With the Sea Lions able to get an additional tournament on their schedule, they rank among the national leaders in numerous categories, all of which lead the PacWest. PLNU is 18th in free throw attempts (91), 13th in made 3-pointers (40), 10th in assists (71) and second in total rebounds (210). Point Loma has won its last four Homecoming contests.
 
A look at the Hawks
San Diego Christian has started the season at 1-4. The Hawks are coming off back-to-back losses to San Diego State and Biola. SDC is averaging 74.5 ppg and is shooting .432 percent from the field. The Hawks also force their opponents into 4.2 more turnovers per game, however, they are being outrebounded by 8.5 boards per game.
 
Derek Novsek has led the team in scoring in all five games this season. He is averaging 24.0 ppg while shooting .578 percent from the field and going 40-for-43 at the free throw line. He is also grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game. Hayden Fredrick (11.3 ppg) is the only other Hawk in double-figures.
 
Next game
Point Loma will continue its six-game homestand by hosting Antelope Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
