RIVERSIDE, Calif. - California Baptist got revenge against the Point Loma men's basketball team for two upset wins late last season with a 65-59 win on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Â
Tanner Nelson led three Sea Lions in double-figures with 14 points.
Ziggy Satterthwaite (13) and
Josh Rodriguez (12) also reached double-figures for PLNU. Rodriguez added six assists and three steals. Jordan Heading paced the Lancers with 19 points.

CBU's defense bothered Point Loma all night. The Sea Lions shot 38.1 percent from the field and was just 1-of-11 from behind the 3-point line in the first half. However, the Sea Lions trailed just one at halftime (25-24) and took a six-point lead early in the second half. The Lancers responded to PLNU taking the lead with a 19-5 run which pushed their lead to 48-40. Point Loma fought to cut the lead to three (60-57) on a pair of free throws from Nelson with 29 seconds left but it would get no closer as CBU made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 27 seconds.

The Turning Point
The Lancers 19-5 second-half run was just too much for Point Loma. After claiming its largest lead (35-29) of the game after a terrible shooting first half, PLNU finally looked to be getting a rhythm offensively. The Sea Lions knocked down treys on back-to-back possessions to take the lead but CBU responded by making five of its next six shots to tie the game at 38-38. PLNU then went cold to aid the Lancers' run. Point Loma made just two of its next eight shots and committed four turnovers to allow California Baptist to score 10 of the next 12 points and claim a lead they would never relinquish.
