HONOLULU -
Sterling Somers scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, but that was about the only positive for the Sea Lions in their 73-46 loss against No. 8 Hawaii Pacific on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Â
The result keeps Hawaii Pacific (24-2, 16-2 PacWest) atop the PacWest standings, a half-game ahead of California Baptist. It also puts PLNU (13-11, 9-8 PacWest) into a tie with Azusa Pacific for sixth place in the standings.
Â
Chauncy Orr went 7-of-9 from the field, and 4-of-6 from 3-point range, to lead Hawaii Pacific with 18 points. Connor Looney added 14 and Deven Riley came off the bench with 10. Somers was the only Sea Lion in double-figures.
Zach Burnham paced the squad with nine rebounds.
Â
PLNU jumped out to a 10-5 lead but HPU answered with a 30-5 run to take a 37-20 halftime lead. Point Loma had 14 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes to aid in the Sharks' spurt. The game would never again get closer than the 17-point halftime margin.
Â
The Sea Lions will continue their Hawaii road trip on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Chaminade. The game will tip off at 9:30 p.m. PST.Â
