ALAMEDA, Calif. - The Point Loma baseball team opened its first PacWest road trip with a doubleheader sweep of Holy Names on Friday, Mar. 10. PLNU won the opener 12-1 behind a great start from
Kellen Sheppard and three RBI apiece from
Ryan Garcia and
Harrison Ramey. In game 2, PLNU came back from a 3-0 deficit to earn the 6-3 victory.

The Sea Lions (12-3, 6-0 PacWest) have now won nine straight games, and improved to 6-0 on the road. The losses drop Holy Names to 4-15 on the season (1-5 PacWest).

Game 1
Kellen Sheppard (4-0) continues to get better as the season goes along. He built on the momentum he created in his last start as he pitched 7.2 innings today, allowing seven hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out six. Â

Seniors
Ryan Garcia and
Harrison Ramey led the offense which got out to a 9-0 lead after seven innings. Ramey was 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored.
Ryan Garcia had just one hit in the game but he made it count as he blasted his fifth home run of the season with a two-run shot in the sixth. He also had a stolen base, walked twice and came around to score three runs. Kellen Shepard also when 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base.
Micah Pries also posted a multi-hit game.

Kyle Scott (1-1) took the loss for Holy Names after being charged with six hits and six runs (all earned) over 4.1 innings.

Game 2
Point Loma rallied from a 3-0 deficit with three runs in both the sixth and eighth innings to earn the 6-3 victory on the road.

Sheppard,
Tyler Flores and
Mike Gordner all had RBI-hits in the sixth inning as Point Loma tied the game. In the eighth, PLNU took advantage of the Hawks' Jacob Rivera's lack of command. He hit Garcia to lead off the inning, and after a strikeout, he walked the next three batters to force in the go-ahead run.
Wyatt Champlin added an insurance run with an RBI-groundout and
Adam Rios capped off the scoring with a two-out single to bring home
Mike Gordner.

Sheppard was the only Sea Lion to record a multi-hit game as PLNU outhit HNU 7-5. He was 2-for-5 with his PacWest-leading seventh double of the season, to go along with an RBI and a run scored.
Ryan Garcia and
Tyler Flores each scored two runs. Flores also had two stolen bases.

Patrick McMullen (2-0) earned victory out of the pen. He threw two hitless innings allowing just one walk while striking out three.
Eric Pierce in for the final two innings to pick up his PacWest-leading fifth save of the season. The bullpen combined for 5.1 scoreless innings over today's two games. Â Starter
Kevin Lillicrop received a no-decision after pitching five innings and allowing five hits and three runs (two earned). He walked two and struck out seven.
