LA JOLLA, Calif. - Grant Alston and Yuki Okamoto paired up to earn a victory at No. 3 doubles against the No. 12 team in the country, UC San Diego, but unfortunately that would be the only point the Sea Lions would collect as they fell to the Tritons 8-1.
 
UCSD is now 10-9 on the season. They are ranked No. 12 in the country and No. 3 in the West Region. PLNU drops to 4-15.
 
When Alston's and Okamoto's win happened at No. 3 doubles it was a key in keeping PLNU in the match. The Sea Lions had already dropped the first two double matches, and knew if they fell in all three, it would be nearly impossible to comeback. Alston and Okamoto responded by grinding out an 8-6 win and sending the match to singles with PLNU trailing just 2-1.
 
UCSD was able to clinch the match with the first three singles victories. CJ Erion pushed the No. 34 player in the country, Alexandre Miaule, to a tiebreaker but in the end fell 6-2, 4-6 and 10-8. Jack Alston also went to the third set and lost in a tiebreaker 5-7, 7-5 and 10-8.
 
PLNU will turn right around and head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for a match on Saturday, Apr. 8 beginning at 3 p.m.
