Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Eagles spoil home opener for Sea Lions

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Cal State LA in its season opener on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The match stayed scoreless until the 32nd minute when the Golden Eagles ran a beautiful set-piece off a corner kick and it was headed into the goal by Antonio Rosas. The Sea Lions had a few chances to tie the match but great shots from Indiana Fuller and Christopher Tellez were both saved. CSLA would two more goals in the 79th and 87th minutes, respectively, to seal the match.

The Turning Point
Although PLNU trailed 1-0 most of the second half it was still aggressive and giving itself some chances. However, when CSLA's Julian Zamora was able to beat two Point Loma defenders and the goalie for the score which put the Golden Eagles up 2-0 with just 12 minutes left, the match was all but over.

Wisdom of the Wolf
"That is what Cal State LA does. They are good at what they do, and we aren't good with what they are good at like defending free kicks, defending the counter and taking chances. It is a similar storyline to previous games against them."

"Sometimes you can think of having too many good teams on the schedule can just be too difficult or can hurt you. But at the end of the day, the West Region is really difficult and there is no way around it so hopefully strength of our non-conference schedule helps us in conference play, but the reality is if you have no confidence after the non-conference games it doesn't help you."

"Where we are at (in the development of this program) there are many positives from a 3-0 result. Until we understand that it is important to do things a certain way, but you must win. So to me there are no positives."
