SAN DIEGO—In the final game of the 2017 Seaside Invitational, the Sea Lions hosted their crosstown rival Tritons of UC San Diego. The Tritons proved to be too tough to overcome for PLNU as they lost in straight sets.
While they were able to fight for long rallies, PLNU couldn't find the firepower to finish those long stretches and as a team they converted less than 10 percent of their attack attempts. The defense kept the Sea Lions competitive throughout the match with freshman libero
Holley Persson leading the way with 14 digs.

Scott's Thoughts
On the Seaside Invitational:
"We're trying to make it the best tournament in the country opening weekend, it's not there yet, but it has to be one of the top three or five. Hopefully it will continue to grow which means there are more opportunities for us to see where we are and where we need to get to compare to the top competition."
On how the young players responded in their first collegiate action:
"We've got a couple of players who have stepped up and established themselves, who really have an opportunity to be three or four year permanent players on this roster. The tough competition also showed these girls that we are not at that level yet and we are not close to where we want to be."
On what to work on going into next weekend:
"We have to be able to learn, we know the areas where we need to show that grit and we need to be willing to step into some areas of discomfort."

Set 1: UCSD 25, PLNU 17
