SAN DIEGO - Â It was a fun atmosphere, a great crowd and a beautiful night, the score was the only thing that went wrong for the Sea Lions during
Tim Hall Night. After PLNU scored the first goal, Azusa Pacific came back with two goals to earn the 2-1 victory, in the PacWest opener for both teams.
Â
PLNU took the initial lead in the 34th minute on
Maddi Masenheimer's first career goal, which she scored on a corner kick from
Fernanda Osorio [video]. APU answered with the equalizer in the 42nd minute on a corner kick goal of their own from Emilie Allum. Katelyn Rogers posted the game-winner in the 55th minute on a shot that just snuck past the PLNU keeper.

PLNU (1-3-1, 0-1-0 PacWest), APU (1-3-0, 1-0-0 PacWest)

The Turning Point
Rogers' goal, just 10 minutes after halftime, put the Sea Lions on their heels the rest of the match. It is very rare for a
Tim Hall coached team to ever lose after having an early lead, and the second goal seemed to stun PLNU and put all the momentum into APU's corner.

Words from the Hall of Wisdom
On the match: "We played well, but we didn't play well enough to win. We had good chances, and some better chances than they had, but we made some very critical mistakes that hurt us today."
Â
On Point Loma's downfall: "I thought we lost our edge to play at certain times. Like after we scored our goal the wind went out of us and allowed them to score the goal four minutes before the half. Those are things you have to take care of to finish games out."
Â
On the Night Soccer Match: "This is a great thing and we appreciate all the work the staff puts into making it happen."
Â
On the Night Match being a distraction: "There should never be a distraction. Once the whistle blows, you play soccer. It doesn't matter if it is 100 degrees, 50 degrees, the daytime or the night, you have to show up and play. I just feel that we are missing 'that edge' and it really disappoints me. That edge is what allows good teams to close out games."
Â
Overall: "I was happy with how we played in some ways, but I was disappointed in some of the infrastructural issue. We didn't have fight or grit. I thought we were lacking in those areas."
