Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Down two men, PLNU earns a tie against NDNU

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's soccer team proved it has the grit and courage coach Phil Wolf is always preaching about. Down a man the entire second half, and down two for most of the overtime periods, Point Loma battled Notre Dame de Namur to a 0-0 tie.

This was the fifth straight shutout for Point Loma and extended with shutout streak to 504 consecutive minutes.

PacWest Implications
The result gave PLNU one point and pushed Point Loma into first place in the PacWest for the time being with 10 points. NDNU is fourth in the standings.

The Turning Point
Junior Navarro picked up a straight red card for the Sea Lions in the 43rd minute, forcing Point Loma to play with just 10 men the rest of the way. However, this did not demoralize PLNU at all, instead they embraced the challenge and played some of their best soccer of the year, especially defensively. PLNU gained an extra step and extra energy even with the loss of a player.

Wolf's Words
On the Sea Lions playing shorthanded: "From the red card on I was super proud of the guys. Our performance was very poor up to the red card. But we showed courage in the second half and we were the better team down the stretch. The courage of this team was fantastic."

On getting a point: "This is not exactly what you want at home, but considering the circumstances, we'll take the point and move on."

On continuing momentum: "If you would have told me before the match that we'd be down a man in the first half and down two late, I'd have taken a point for sure. I am proud of the guys that were on the field but disappointed we put ourselves in that spot."
