SAN DIEGO - Â The Sea Lions are stunned. After playing even with Cal Poly Pomona for 108 minutes, Amanda Duran's goal ended the match in the second period of overtime to lift the Broncos over the Point Loma women's soccer team, 1-0. (Sept. 6)
Â
The match was truly even during regulation. Cal Poly Pomona had a slight possession edge in the first half, and PLNU matched them in the second half. However, as the match went to the extra time, PLNU looked like it was gaining a step, as CPP was losing a bit of theirs. But the Sea Lions could not take advantage of some good looks early in the overtimes and lost on a quick counter attack goal after a missed opportunity off a corner kick.

The Turning Point
Duran's goal was a shocker to everyone in the stadium. With less than three minutes remaining in the match, PLNU had a corner kick that sailed over everyone to become a goal kick for CPP. They quickly got the ball inbounds and worked it up the left side of the field. Duran almost looked like she was crossing the ball, but she kept it low to the ground and it rolled into the bottom right corner of the net for the game-winner.

Words from the Hall of Wisdom
"I was not happy with the way we played today. I am trying to be nice, but I need to be honest before I'm nice. Our girls played way below our standard tonight. I am not taking anything away from Cal Poly Pomona, they finished the game, but our women didn't play well."
Â
"I thought Brianna (Linnell) had a good game but other than that there was no factor that stood out to me as being really great today."
Â
"I hope our women can learn from this that when we have good practices, which we have, they have to transfer that from practice to the field. They have to play well when it counts. This was a disappointing day and a horrible way to lose."
Â
"We have to play better than today (against Cal State LA). Every player has to come prepared mentally to play soccer. I am not taking anything away from Cal Poly Pomona, it was a battle out there today, but we need to be better in nearly all aspects of the game."
