SAN DIEGO -
Julia Glaser gave the fans a treat on International Student Day as she scored two goals to help lead the Point Loma women's soccer team to its ninth straight victory with a 2-1 win over Azusa Pacific, in a non-conference match. (Oct. 6)
The German native continues to be an offensive force for the Sea Lions in her first season with the team. She gave PLNU the lead in the 25th minute on a penalty kick goal after
Bella Diaz was taken down by the goalie in the box. Glaser extended Point Loma's lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute after
Raynee Odell was able to corral a ball in the box and found her open for the score.
Unfortunately in the victory, the Sea Lions did see their shutout streak end at eight matches and 812 consecutive scoreless minutes. APU was able to beat the PLNU defense in the 84th minute to end both streaks. The Cougars ended the run by taking a long shot that hit the crossbar and rebounded right to Kennedy Christie for one-touch goal. This was the first goal PLNU allowed since Aug. 30.

Quotes from coach Kiely
On the importance of playing all 90 minutes: "Credit to Azusa Pacific. They came ready to play today and we were a little sloppy. I didn't even need to tell our team that at halftime, they knew we did not play a good half. Our test came in the second half, as we needed to respond to our poor first half. I thought the women responded well."
On ending the shutout streaks: "Giving up three goals in 10 games is not bad. I think our defending is good but it needs improvement, and I've said that after every game. We've been sloppy before but today it just caught up with us. We will regroup and get ready for Holy Names."
On the positives of the match: "I will point to the second half again. Every game has felt like a test of some type. Some are physical, some are mental, some are the opponent and sometimes it's ourselves. Today our test was seeing if we could recover from one of the poorest halves we've had this season. We were able to have a much better second half and our mentality is getting stronger each match and that is the most important thing if you want to make a run to the postseason."
