POMONA, Calif. – Point Loma continued their play in the PacWest/CCAA Challenge today facing a tough team in Cal State San Bernardino. After going down early in the game, the Coyotes were able to cut the lead to seven heading into the half. The Sea Lions came out of the half and struggled to score in the third quarter once again, only putting up six points in the frame. Down by eight heading to the final quarter, PLNU found their offense, but the Coyotes were able to score enough to keep the Sea Lions at bay, winning 67-59.
Sydney Peterson had another solid game for Point Loma, scoring 22 points, 7-of-15 from three, and dishing out four assists.
Cara Liggins tallied her first double-double of the season, 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Grace Brady went 5-of-9 from the floor, scoring 10 points to go along with three blocks. The team had 12 offensive rebounds, but were only able to convert those rebounds into four second-chance points.
The Coyotes brought a balanced offensive attack, with three player scoring in double figures, and five who scored at least eight points. They capitalized off of Sea Lion turnovers to score 18 points off of turnovers, and outscored Point Loma 30-20 in the paint.

Thoughts from Coach Faulkner
On what the team executed well over the weekend: "When we are playing our best, it's when we are defending really well. Our moments that we were successful, we were defending and getting rebounds and that translates into good offense. The biggest takeaway from these last two games is that we have to defend for 40 minutes and offense will take care of itself."
On Sydney's hot start: "Sydney was really hot in the first half, but the message to the team right now is that we are going to have players go off sometimes but we all need to be able to play together. The biggest thing is that we went on a scoring drought and we need to focus on how we are going to get stops. We have players who can get hot but it is not going to happen all of the time, so we need to focus on the defensive end."
On how the team can capitalize on their offensive rebounds: "It starts with being strong with the ball. We had a lot of silly turnovers, we need to be solid with the ball. We are a young team, it's a long season, and there were a lot more positive things today than yesterday. We just need to get better every single day."
On the home opener on Monday: "The beauty of basketball is that you don't have to wait a week or longer for a game, the game come really fast. We have to learn from our mistakes in previous games, but also focus on the opponent we are playing next. It's not about them, it's about us taking care of business. I'm excited to have a home game, I hope we get some really good energy. Simon Fraser is a really good regional opponent, this will be their third game in four days as well. We have to evaluate ourselves, can we defend, can we capitalize on their mistakes, and if we can do these things we will win the game."
