SAN DIEGO – In a low-scoring, defense-heavy matchup Point Loma women's basketball team came away with their second-straight win and moved above .500 in conference play. The Sea Lions defeated Notre Dame de Namur 59-51 in a game that saw the teams combine for 41 trips to the free throw line.
Tied after one quarter, the Sea Lions found a short stretch in the second quarter where they were able to separate themselves from the Argonauts with key three from
Isabel Turk and
Sydney Peterson. Point Loma threatened to break the game open late in the third quarter, pushing their lead to as much as 14 points, but NDNU found their way to the free throw line to keep themselves in the game.
Down the stretch it would be rebounding and defense that kept PLNU in front as they grabbed two huge offensive boards off of missed free throws. They held the Argonauts to only 28.8 percent shooting in the game and turned 12 turnovers into 12 points.
Peterson led PLNU in scoring with 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists.
Cara Liggins was the only other Sea Lion to hit double figures with 10 points as well as six rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Grace Brady anchored the defense with seven blocks and four rebounds.
Carol Schroeder and Turk each contributed nine points in the winning effort with Schroeder pulling down eight boards as well.
