PLNU DOMINATES WITH 9-0 VICTORY, PUSH WIN STREAK TO 4

SAN DIEGO - The Sea Lions put their three-game win streak to the test on Wednesday afternoon and cam away with a dominant victory, 9-0, over Westmont. The team came out ready to play, from a dominant victory to start doubles play, to quick wins in all of the singles matches Point Loma proved they are a force to be reckoned with.

Carolina Cuevas Bucio partnered with Gabi Armas for No. 2 doubles and the pair came away with an 8-1 victory, setting the pace for the rest of the match. The Sea Lions earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles followed by an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles which gave them the huge 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Point Loma overmatched the Warriors in singles play as well, quick wins at each position kept the match to just over two hours of game time. Gabi Armas continued her stellar singles play, earning the first singles win for PLNU 6-2, 6-0. Ellie Gamble clinched yet another match point for the Sea Lions with her 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles, but even with the match in hand at 5-0 PLNU continued to put the pressure on the Warriors. Cuevas Bucio and Nikki Newell would register their singles wins just after Gamble with McGowan and Torres rounding out the perfect 9-0 win for Point Loma.

Wheeler's Words
On the four-game win streak: "The win streak we are on has been great. We have won some close matches, but have also had some dominant wins as well. We have done a great job of being consistent, every time that we come out we are ready to compete. Throughout a long season that consistency goes a long way, so many matches are won or lost if you don't keep that consistency and come ready to play each time. Today was a great example of that consistency where we managed to take all three doubles matches and being able to keep our focus to take all of the singles as well."

On the play of Gamble: "Just as I talked about with the team, she has embodied that consistency. She has been very focused and disciplined in how she plays. She doesn't give away free points, she looks to get the advantage in the point, and she has been a great example to the team of how to go about their business when they are on the court. She has been a great boost for us this year, especially considering that last year she didn't play in as many singles matches."

On the match overall: "Everybody played well today. Carolina and Gabi set a great tone for the match, not only did they win their doubles but they won in a very convincing fashion, winning 8-1. They were both able to win their singles matches very convincingly as well. We didn't drop a set today, which really speaks to how well the team played as a whole."
