Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

LOCKDOWN 'D' EARNS PLNU ANOTHER VICTORY

SAN DIEGO - The Sea Lions' defense led the Point Loma men's basketball team its fourth-straight victory with a 66-44 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Monday, Feb. 5.

PLNU limited the Argonauts to just 33 percent shooting and 16 made baskets. NDNU managed just 48 attempts in the game. Meanwhile, PLNU shot 46 percent from the field and outrebounded Notre Dame de Namur by 13.

Preston Beverly led the way offensively and defensively as he posted 19 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks. It was his sixth double-double of the year. The Sea Lions also received 13 points from Sterling Somers, 11 from Josh Rodriguez and 10 from Tanner Nelson. All three student-athletes also pulled down seven rebounds apiece. Omar Lo was the only Argonaut to reach double-figures (14) and he did it on 4-of-14 shooting.

PacWest Implications
The win moved the Sea Lions into third place in the PacWest standings. PLNU is one game back of California Baptist (11-3) and 1.5 behind first-place Dixie State. The loss drops NDNU into a tie with Biola for 12th in the PacWest.

The Turning Point
After struggling to create any distance in the first half, the Sea Lions came out of the locker room on a 9-2 run to extend the 32-24 halftime lead into double-figures. NDNU would never get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Words from Coach Looney
On holding NDNU to just 48 shots: "The pace of the game was very slow. They were walking it down the floor and not in a hurry to score. I thought they were very patient and probably had us playing at the exact tempo they wanted. But our guys were able to stay focused and battle through."

On Beverly and White playing role of rim protectors: "We were trying to have our 'bigs' help in the paint away from the ball. All three 'bigs' did a really good job in that area. Preston and Skyler have also been very good in using their length to block shots."

On balanced scoring attack: "We have been talking about sacrifice and unselfishness all year. It is great to see everyone on the same page right now."

On the six turnovers: "In a slower game you have to value every possession, and tonight our team did that."
