HAWAII HILO TAKES GAME 2 FROM PLNU

HILO, Hawaii - The Point Loma baseball team waited out several rain delays but still did not get the result it was hoping for as the Sea Lions fell to Hawaii Hilo, 9-4. (Mar. 9)

The senior Trevor Abshire (2-2) pitched well again, holding the Vulcans to five hits and four runs (three earned) in six innings. He walked one and struck out five. He had the Sea Lions in front 2-1 going into the sixth before the Vulcans broke out for three runs thanks to a two-run, one-out triple by Phillip Steering.

The rains would come after that, forcing a 35-minute delay and Trevor Abshire out of the game. When play resumed PLNU quickly cut it to one run (3-2) on a Colby Kaneshiro sacrifice fly. It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth. In the inning UHH got a one-out single and then three straight walks before a throwing error by the Sea Lions cleared the bases and when the dust settled the Vulcans were up six runs (9-3).

Dylan Spain (2-2) earned the victory for the Vulcans. He went the first six innings allowing four hits and two runs while walking five and striking out six.
