LA MIRADA, Calif. – The impressive freshman season of
Garrett Irvin continued on Thursday. The southpaw went a complete game allowing just five hits and one run while striking out 10, but unfortunately he learned one of the tough lessons for a pitcher, as Point Loma fell to Biola 1-0.
It was the first career loss for Irvin who had won his first four decisions. He set down the first eight batters of the game in order and just once did an Eagle reach third base. Actually the runner was Joey Magro, who reached base on Irvin's only walk of the game, and he was only on third base for the moment he ran by safely as a two-out, single up to left field by Ricky Perez plated him from second base for the game-winning run.
It was Micah Beyer (5-0) that outdueled Irvin. He went eight innings allowing seven hits and no runs while walking two and striking out 11. Daniel Jang pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save of the season.
