SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Point Loma traveled to the Bay Area this weekend to participate in the D2 West Region Showcase. The first challenge for the Sea Lions were the Cavaliers of Concordia-Portland. PLNU came out strong in the first set, dominating on offense, leading to a 25-10 victory. The next two sets CU would give the Sea Lions a test, but the team found ways to earn the points that mattered on their way to their first win of the season.
In set one, it was
Kayla Chapman who dominated, going 8-of-9 and accounting for almost half of the team's kills in the set.
Julia Malinas got out to a hot start as well swinging for five kills in her first five attempts. With the offense having their best performance of the season, the team was also able to capitalize off opponent errors and limit their own errors at the same time. The team totaled 51 kills on a .343 hitting percentage.
Cara Keturakis also had one of her best performances on the season as well as in her career. She totaled 43 assists on the match, which is the most in her career in only a three-set match.
Rachael Schlect has another solid performance in her young career as well, just missing a double-double, totaling 13 kills and nine digs.

Scott's Thoughts:
On what was working well for his offense: "Confidence. Each of them had great confidence coming in to the match."
On how this solid effort can help his team going forward: "We are just hoping to keep controlling what we can control, and not let outside uncontrollables get in the way."
On their balanced offensive effort: "The more spread out [our offense] can be, the more unpredictable we are for the opponent."
