SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – In the second day of the D2 West Region Showcase, Point Loma came away with an early victory. PLNU took down the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks with a 3-0 sweep to earn their second victory of the tournament.
The Sea Lions put up nine quick points in set one, taking a 9-1 lead, before the Nanooks attempted to get back into the game with a few runs of their own. Down 7-6 in the second set, PLNU used a five-point run to take the 11-7 lead and wouldn't look back on their way to a set two win. Leading 2-0, Point Loma looked to secure their second sweep of the season. They earned their sweep with solid offensive contributions from several of their hitters.
Cara Keturakis is beginning to live up to her Preseason All-PacWest Setter award as she has averaged 12.4 assists per set over her last three games. She has spread the wealth among her hitters as three players turned in double-digit kills for the third-straight game.
Rachael Schlect put together another double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs.
Jaime Cymbaluk and
Julia Malinas each tallied double digit kills as well, doing so with efficiency. Cymbaluk notched 13 kills as well with a .400 hitting percentage while Malinas tallied 11 kills on a .526 hitting percentage.
