SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – In their final match of the D2 West Region Showcase the Sea Lions face the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay. While the match was ugly at times, Point Loma found a way to grind out points and make plays on their way to a 3-1 victory.
 
The first and second sets saw the Sea Lions total 19 hitting errors compared to only 21 kills, but they found a way to battle back and win the first set in extra points. Facing two match points, the team got a kill from Rachael Schlect and a solo block from Kayla Chapman to tie the match at 24, Point Loma would win the set 28-26. After falling in set two, the team found a much better offensive rhythm and were able to limit errors on their way to the four-set victory.
 
Schlect led PLNU with another double-double (23 kills, 14 digs), and had arguably her best all-around performance on the season. Cara Keturakis continues to run a solid offense with four-straight matches tallying 40 or more assists. The defense was a huge part of keeping the Sea Lions in the match, Celeste Friesen totaled 29 digs to anchor the defensive effort.

On getting the set one win despite not playing well: "Set one was a good victory because we won dirty and ugly."

On Schlect's performance: "She is really coming in to her own."

On using his bench: "It is super nice to be deep and have options, hopefully that pushes us in practice this week."

On getting ready for PacWest play: "We need to learn from this weekend and improve going forward."

> Schlect was named to the D2 West Region Showcase All-Tournament team, she totaled 64 kills on a .260 hitting percentage as well as 46 digs and three double-doubles on the weekend. 
> The Sea Lions had four players with with double-digit digs, Friesen, Courtney Dyer, Schlect, and Keturakis.
> Schlect is the first Sea Lion to record multiple 20-kill matches in a season since Brianna Sizemore in 2016. 
> All 13 of the available players for Point Loma saw court time in the match.
