PLNU OPENS PACWEST PLAY WITH SWEEP OF ART U

SAN DIEGO– Point Loma returned to Golden Gym on Friday night to open up PacWest play against Academy of Art. Carried by a powerful offense, the Sea Lions came away with the 3-0 victory over the Urban Knights. The team hit .310 for the match, their second highest percentage of the season, and totaled 37 kills in three sets.
 
Point Loma came out aggressive from the first point, tough serves and contributions from all of their hitters allowed the offense to open up. Jaime Cymbaluk led the Sea Lions with 11 kills, while also serving four aces in the match. Cara Keturakis has looked solid over the three-game winning streak and has found the right rhythm with her hitters, totaling 29 assists on the match.
 
PLNU saw big contributions from several newcomers in their first home match, Courtney Dyer and Celeste Friesen paced the passing game with seven and six digs, respectively. Kayla Chapman and Rachael Schlect each totaled seven kills, and freshman Tate Duane notched two kills and a block in on set of action.

Turning Point
After allowing the Urban Knights to cut a seven-point lead down to two in the second set, the Sea Lions found a way to grind out the last five points of the match to take the dominant 2-0 lead into set three.

> Cymbaluk put together one of her best performances of her career, swinging for 11 kills on a .556 hitting percentage.

> Three Sea Lions notched their first ever kills in Golden Gym.
