SAN DIEGO–Point Loma earned a huge victory over Hawaii Pacific tonight, battling it out in five sets, including two sets that went into extra points. The Sea Lions had the advantage early in the match as they were able to win the first two sets, both by slim margins. The Sharks would not go without a fight though, as they stormed back to take sets three and four, forcing the decisive fifth set. PLNU came out on top in set five to earn their fourth PacWest win of the season.
The two teams battled it out each set, with only a single set decided by more than three points. The Sea Lions pulled out the 25-22 win in set one, capped by a solo block from
Jaime Cymbaluk and a kill from
Cara Keturakis. Set two went extra points with Point Loma finding a way to get the 28-26 win after the Sharks pushed the set to 24-24. Hawaii Pacific closed the third set on a 6-2 run to get the win and were able to carry that momentum into a fourth set victory as well. With everything on the line in set five, Point Loma was able to find their offense late, getting kills from four different players, and win the set and match.
Rachael Schlect led the Sea Lions in kills once again while notching her fifth double-double of the season, tallying 19 kills and 14 digs.
Jaime Cymbaluk (.300) and
Madie Fox (.500) each added double-digit kills as well with 18 and 11, respectively.
Courtney Dyer made her first start of the season at libero and put up solid numbers, totaling 28 digs and nine assists on the night.

Down 9-7 in the fifth set the Sea Lions are able to go on a 3-0 run capped by a huge block from
Cara Keturakis and
Kayla Chapman, giving them a 10-9 lead and swinging the momentum in their favor.
