Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION

PLNU scores a season-high five goals, including three in the first 10 minutes to earn the win

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's soccer team finally delivered the performance head coach Kristi Kiely had been looking for all year, with a 5-0 victory Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Sea Lions began their PacWest Conference opener on fire, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes. Julia Glaser scored the first goal in the third minute of play on an assist by Abbey Teagle. In the fifth minute, Abbi Swanson posted her first goal of the season by hooking a ball into the net off a corner kick. Glaser and Teagle hooked up on another goal in the 10th minute. It was Glaser's PacWest-leading fifth goal of the season. Ashlee Smith (62') and Abigail Nobiensky (77') would both add goals in the second half as PLNU had its first multi-goal output of the season.

Emma Hinson and Mikaela Montoya combined on the shutout for the Sea Lions. The duo was forced to make just one save, but it was a great one by Montoya late in the match to preserve the shutout.

On the three early goals: "Goals are hard to come by in this sport and I was glad we went after them early. We haven't had good starts to games but I challenged our team to go at them from the beginning, and that showed today."

On PacWest play: "This is the start of conference play, and we are happy it is a home game. It is always great to be at home with our fans and our support crew. We are thankful to get the win here, now we have to go on the road and take care of business."
