Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

STREAK SNAPPED

#13 Western Washington ends PLNU's regular season unbeaten streak at 17

SAN DIEGO - All good things must end, but when they do, it always feels so sudden. It had been 369 days since the Point Loma men's soccer team experienced its last regular season loss, but two great goals by Western Washington's Georg Cholewa, sent the Sea Lions to a 2-1 defeat.

Cholewa scored both goals off free kicks, bending them around the Sea Lions' wall and into the top corner of the net. He put the first one in in the 15th minute and added the second in the 79th minute. PLNU scored its goal on a penalty kick goal by Tim Siegfried in the 87th minute.

That penalty kick was the Sea Lions' first shot on goal of the match as a strong Vikings' defense thwarted every other offensive possession for PLNU. Meanwhile, WWU had 10 shots on goal and 15 total for the match. PLNU's goalkeeper Connor McEwen had seven saves compared to none for WWU's Brandon Wolter.

Team Records
Point Loma (1-1-0, 0-0-0 PacWest), Western Washington (3-0-0, 0-0-0 GNAC)

The Turning Point
Point Loma's All-American goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota went out with injury, following a collision, in the 25th minute. While Connor McEwen stepped in and made seven saves, losing their goalkeeper early in the match seemed to take some of the 'wind' out of the Sea Lions' sails.

Wolf's Words
On Western Washington: "(They) are a really good team. They went on the road and beat Chico State, Sonoma State and now us. Hats off to them. They deserve the result."

On the free kicks and fouls: "When you have a guy with that quality that is what happens. Both were big moments and at the end of the day they were better than us."

On his team: "I'm a little worried this group is living off last year, and they are going to have to find a way to get themselves going. We are second -best right now and have been that way the past few matches."

On what PLNU needs to do moving forward: "We have to keep working and get that fire in our belly. We have to try to get better and better."
