Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

ROAD TEST PASSED

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Point Loma women's soccer team passed another early season test when they won their second straight road match, 1-0, over Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Julia Glaser scored her second goal in as many matches on a header off a cross from Bella Diaz in the 25th minute. Glaser made a straight run into the box and Diaz found her three feet in front of the net on the near post for the score.

With the lead PLNU's defense took over. It kept the Cougars off the board for all 90 minutes with Emma Hinson making four saves and the team recording two others. It looked like CSUSM might break through with a goal in the 64th minute but Hinson made one save before the defense blocked a shot and made two consecutive team saves to preserve the win.

Words from Coach Kiely
On the match: "I thought our first half was very good by all players on the field. In the second half, we were rattled a little bit and did not stick completely to our game plan. But I am proud of these women for coming out with the win, even under the circumstances."

On the shutout: "Emma made some really good plays for us today in goal. She took a beating but she played very well. Our backline also did extremely well. We have had a rotation in the back with people fighting for spots. Everyone that has stepped on the field has done really well and I am pleased with that."

On Julia Glaser: "Obviously she can score goals but she is a big part of our attack in many ways. She has a lot of game sense and maturity. The way she plays and carries herself calms everyone else down. Others are also playing really well off of her so I give a lot of credit to players as well."

On the road wins: "These road matches are so important. In the PacWest we will travel so far so you have to get practice competing on the road. This week we went to two very tough places to play and we managed very well."
