SAN DIEGO – It was not easy, but the No. 10 ranked Point Loma men basketball team banked its PacWest-record 14th straight conference win with an 85-66 victory over Academy of Art.
Daulton Hommes posted his second straight game over 30 points. The junior forward scored 33 points on 10-of-18 shooting. He also went 9-of-9 at the line and added five rebounds.
Preston Beverly posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Josh Rodriguez was very efficient on the floor throughout the game. He scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and had five assists to go with just two turnovers. Andrija Blatancic led three ART U student-athletes in double figures with 15 points.
Point Loma never trailed in the game but faced multiple comeback runs by the Urban Knights. The first big run came right before the half as ART U hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Sea Lions' halftime lead to 41-37. The Urban Knight came out determined after the half and cut the lead to two (50-48), but Point Loma would not surrender the lead. The Sea Lions then hit their run at the 7:45 mark when they outscored ART U 13-1 to push the lead to 17 points with under four minutes remaining.
