WINNING STREAK SNAPPED IN OT

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 10 Point Loma bid to go undefeated in PacWest Conference play ended on Saturday night with a 91-85 overtime loss at Concordia.

The Sea Lions already had the record for best record to start PacWest play (14-0), but they were attempting to be just the second team to go through the entire conference season undefeated. Only BYU-Hawaii accomplished that feat when it went 12-0 in 2008-09.

Daulton Hommes scored 28 points and had 11 rebounds, but it was not enough to overcome a tough Eagles' team and a raucous crowd at CU Arena. Point Loma did not take its first lead until under 5:00 in the second half. The teams then traded baskets until the 26-second mark when Brian Chambers knocked down two free throws to put the Eagles up 74-71.

Josh Rodriguez brought the ball down the court against pressure and rejected a ball screen and on the left wing, before pulling up and sinking the game-tying 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining. The Sea Lions then got a defensive stop and forced overtime.

CUI scored the first five points of the extra period, and never yielded the lead. Point Loma cut the lead to three (88-85) and had a good look at a 3-pointer to tie the game with 22 seconds left, but the shot caught iron and the Eagles were able to seal the game at the free throw line.

Chambers led four Concordia student-athletes in double figures with 23 point. He added five rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals. Preston Beverly scored a season-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He also had eight rebounds and three steals. Tanner Nelson posted 16 points, and Rodriguez had 11 points, seven assists, and three steals.

PacWest Implications
