SAN DIEGO, CA
- The Sea Lions were unable to defeat the #1 nationally ranked team on Saturday, Oct 12. Azusa Pacific Defeated Point Loma 2-0.

From the opening kick off APU looked to cause havoc on the PLNU defense but couldn't get anything going in the opening minutes. Both teams possessed the ball multiple times and got a feel for how each other was playing. In the 13th minute of play the Cougars were awarded a corner kick after a Sea Lion defender misplayed the ball. APU sent the corner kick towards the middle of the box and PLNU failed to clear it. Isaac Bawa would send a shot that was blocked by a Sea Lion defender, Bawa would rebound the ball, send another shot towards the net that was deflected by another Sea Lion defender, and the Cougars would be awarded a corner. On the ensuing corner PLNU tried to clear, but came up unsuccessfully. A Cougar midfielder would find himself with the ball near the penalty mark and boot the ball to the bottom right side of the goal and score, giving APU a 1-0 lead over Point Loma. After the Cougar goal, APU applied more pressure taking five more shots in the half. PLNU could find no rhythm on offense and went into halftime trailing 1-0.

PLNU came out in the second half looking to make some quick adjustments and tie the game up. Unfortunately the Cougars had answers for their adjustments and scored six minutes into the second half. The Sea Lions were down 2-0 with 38 minutes to play. After the second goal PLNU quickly turned things around, and picked up their game. After a substitution on both sides, the Sea Lion offense fired two shots, one being on goal from Corey Lundeen. After a shot off target by Azusa Pacific, Point Loma went racing down the pitch with the ball and wound up with a scoring chance inside the box. Tim Siegfried received the ball and shot it to the low left side of the goal, unfortunately it would hit the post and APU would grab the rebound.

PLNU had two great chances to get them back in the game, but could not convert on either one. Kyle Hoh was substituted into the game in the 79th minute and had a big impact right away. He would receive the ball just outside the left side of the box, and shoot the ball to the upper right where the ball had a chance to sneak past the keeper, but would end up hitting off the keepers fingers for an APU save. Point Loma could not find any answers to the APU defense and lost their first conference game of the year.
