SEA LIONS FIGHT OFF URBAN KNIGHTS

SAN DIEGO - After a double overtime win on Thursday, PLNU was all but tired. David Achaerandio scored an early goal for the Sea Lions, and Tim Siegfried gave PLNU an insurance goal late in the second half to help the Sea Lions defeat Art U 2-0 on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The Sea Lion offense looked to attack the Art U defense right away with David Achaerandio and Jack Murphy each taking a shot in the opening minutes of the match. Murphy sent his to the bottom right side of the goal but was saved by the Urban Night keeper. As the first half went along PLNU saw themselves with multiple chances off three corner kicks. The Sea Lions were rewarded a corner in the 21st minute of play. Achaerandio booted the ball to the back post of the goal and Alfred Hjaelmhammar booted the loose ball to the right side of the goal, but would miss wide. PLNU would be rewarded another corner after Tim Siegfried fired a shot towards the net that deflected off an Art U defender. Achaerandio would kick the corner for the Sea Lions again. On the ensuing corner Hunter Loomis gathered the ball, that had been batted around, took a shot to the upper right corner of the goal, but the Art U keeper would make a save to preserve the tie. In the 38th minute the Sea Lion offense took advantage of a goal scoring opportunity. Pascal Rodriguez sent a deep ball to Achaerandio who was waiting for it on the right side of the box, he then cut to the left and took a left footed shot at the net, and beat the keeper to the bottom right of the goal. The Sea Lions kept the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, and into the second half of play, PLNU looked to keep the momentum they got from the late first half goal. They did just as that as Parker Scalzo and David Achaerandio both took shots, but would missed wide. Art U responded with two shots of their own, one being on goal, and saved by Connor McEwen. The Urban Knights controlled the ball for about five minutes, being rewarded with a corner and another shot on goal. The PLNU defense held strong and did not concede. Hunter Loomis made his presence felt in the 64th minute recording two shots, one being on goal, and the other just missing wide. The PLNU offense continued to attack the Art U defense.

After substitutions on both sides, the Sea Lions were rewarded with a corner, that ended with a shot on goal, but could not sneak it past the keeper. Hunter Loomis and Teague Anderson would have great chances at scoring, but could not put enough power into their kick to beat the keeper. In the 87th minute PLNU capitalized on a scoring opportunity. Teague Anderson sent a long ball to Loomis, who gave the ball off to Tim Siegfried who fired a left footed shot at the goal. The ball would hit off the keepers hands and trickle into the goal for the second Sea Lion goal of the day. PLNU went on to beat Art U 2-0

Words from Wolf:
On gathering 6 of 6 possible points:  "After last game I was mad at the guys for taking three points, today I'm just going to tell them you take three points and you move on. We had a decent performance at some aspects of the game, but I think we missed out on some other aspects."

On improving on some defensive miscues: "Obviously a clean sheet is great. We changed our central defense pairing. I thought Blake (Hazelton) and Alfred (Hjaelmhammar) had good performances. If you don't concede any goals you give yourself a really good chance"

On preparing for Fresno Pacific: "That is a huge game for us. Away at Fresno, it's a really big game. We have to continue to strive for points every time we come out and play. We still have a lot to play for."
